New accuser: stepfather used Grok to make abuse images of her as a child
A woman says her stepfather used xAI's Grok chatbot to turn a photo from when she was 11 into thousands of explicit images, joining a lawsuit against the company.
What happened: A woman identified in court filings as Jane Doe 4 has joined a lawsuit against Elon Musk's xAI over its Grok chatbot. According to a Washington Post report, she alleges her stepfather used Grok to manipulate a photo taken when she was 11 into more than 7,000 explicit images. She says her stepfather was found dead by suicide two days after law enforcement uncovered the images in a raid. "Limitless access to these tools is spreading so quickly," she said. "It is taking everyday life and turning it into child sexual abuse."
Why it matters: This isn't an isolated claim. Earlier this year, X was flooded with millions of sexualized images reportedly generated using Grok. Taken together, the cases suggest a pattern: image-generation tools built into a major platform being used at scale to create abuse material of real people, including children, often with little friction stopping the person doing it.
What the lawsuit alleges: The case began with three Tennessee teenagers suing xAI, claiming the company failed to take basic precautions to stop Grok from being used to generate explicit images of real people, including minors. Jane Doe 4's claim has now been added to that suit. The plaintiffs are seeking class action status, which would let other people harmed in similar ways join the case. TechCrunch said it contacted xAI for comment on the allegations.
What happens next: The class action request is still pending, and it isn't yet clear which court will decide it or how xAI will respond to the specific allegations. If class status is granted, more accusers could come forward, and the case could become an early test of how much legal responsibility AI companies bear when their tools are used to create abuse imagery.
